The Chicago Heights police chief called it a "day of celebration."

The City of Chicago Heights recently welcomed two new additions to its police force.

Officers Hugh McKorkle and George Velez were sworn into duty during Monday night's Nov. 4 city council meeting in what Police Chief Charles Guiliani called "a day of celebration."

"You need to be congratulated," Mayor David Gonzalez said of the two new officers at the meeting. "You did it on your own."
