'Distinctive' Suspect Charged with Armed Robbery

A University Park man faces two felony counts in connection with three Chicago robberies, police said.

A 27-year-old University Park man is one of two men accused in a series of robberies at two late-night businesses in Chicago, police said.

Brian Lykins of the 700 block of South Burr Oak Lane, is charged with two felony counts of aggravated robbery, Chicago police said. Lykins, along with a 27-year-old Chicago man, were arrested when officers stopped a black Mazda on June 28 that matched the description of a car used in three recent robberies.

The two men in the Mazda also matched the description of the two people who robbed a coffee and donut shop in the 5900 block of West Diversey Avenue on June 20, police said.

Lykins has a tattoo of a horn on each side of his head and "distinctly matched" a suspect in surveillance footage from several recent robberies, including the June 20 donut shop incident and two in a ten-day span at a Chicago convenience store, police said. He also is a convicted felon.

In each robbery, one of the men indicated to employees that he was armed and demanded the clerk to hand over cash from the register, police said.
