Driver Charged in Heights Hit and Run

Cook County Sheriff's detectives found vehicle missing side mirror during canvas of area.

A Park Forest woman was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left a Chicago Heights man critically injured.

Ariel Wilson, 22, was charged early Thursday morning with one felony count of leaving the scene of the accident causing serious injury, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart announced in a written statement.

Around 6 p.m. Dec. 28, Wilson allegedly struck and hit a 53-year-old man on 26th Street near Euclid Avenue in unincorporated Chicago Heights.

Sheriff's Police said the man was walking in the edge of the roadway westbound on 26th Street behind another man.

A side mirror consistent with that of a Ford Taurus was found near the victim.

During a canvas of the area on Jan. 28, Sheriff’s Police detectives found a car missing a side mirror in a parking lot near Route 30 and Wilson in Chicago Heights that was missing its side mirror.

Detectives obtained further information implicated Wilson as the driver of the car involved in the hit-and-run.

The day of her arrest, Wilson appeared in bond court in Markham, where bail was set at $15,000. Her next court appearance is on Feb. 19.
