Elderly Heights Hoarder's Home Burglarized

Police were unable to determine if anything was taken due to the amount of trash and rotting food inside the house.

Heights police recently entered a home full of garbage to investigate a possible burglary.

Police went to a house in the 1600 block of Hanover Street Oct. 1, after being called about a burglary in progress. The elderly woman who normally lived in the house is in a nursing home and unknown people were seen going into the house, according to the report. When police arrived the rear door of the house was unsecured, so they checked the inside of the house.

"The interior was completely filled with debris and garbage," police said in the report. "The residence is a safety hazard due to the extreme clutter and rotting food."

The clutter was so bad on the main level of the house police could not tell if anything had been taken or disturbed. Upon entering the basement police saw water gushing from a broken pipe due to the water meter being removed. There was also an unknown amount of copper piping taken.

Police checked the area for suspects but did not find anyone. Chicago Heights Code Enforcement was notified about the house.
