Ex-Boyfriend Burns a Bag to Make a Point: Police Blotter

Backyard Burglary

A 38-year-old Chicago Heights man told police someone forced through his fence and into his backyard. The offender took a lawnmower, a 30-gallon stainless steel gas tank, a red moving dolly and two Skyline Disposal garbage cans from his backyard. His garage was also missing several items, including another lawnmower, an air compressor, a set of aluminum planks, and a set of tools. The items taken have a total estimated value of more than $1,500, according to the report.

THURSDAY, DEC. 7

Bag-Burning Ex-Boyfriend

A 30-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she was in an argument with he rex-boyfriend when he turned on the stove and set fire to a paper bag. The man then said, "I don't give a (profanity) about you or this place; I'll burn this (profanity) up," according to the report. The woman extinguished the fire with water from a mop bucket and told the man she would call the police. He fled after hearing this and police were unable to locate him in the area, according to the report. The woman said there was no physical contact between her and her ex. 

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 6

Counterfeit Currency

An employee of a BP gas station in the 600 block of Dixie Highway told police an 18-year-old Chicago Heights woman came in and asked for $10 worth of gas, handing the employee a ten-dollar bill. The employee said she could tell by the way the bill felt it was fake. She also noted the metal strip and hologram were missing from the bill. The woman then paid for the gas with a 20-dollar bill and asked for the ten-dollar bill back, saying she got it from an IHOP restaurant in Lansing and that she wanted to take it back there. Police took custody of the bill and told the woman she could not have it back. 

MONDAY, DEC. 4

Public Intoxication

Harold M. Mounts, 62, who is newly homeless, was arrested and charged with public intoxication after his wife told police he walked out of their home a month before as the couple was in the process of getting a divorce. Mounts walked up to his wife's door and uttered some racial obscenities before telling her he wanted to move out of Chicago Heights, according to the report. When the woman told her soon-to-be-ex husband to leave, he refused and shouted racial slurs for the neighborhood to hear, according to the report. Police smelled alcohol on Mounts' breath and noticed slurred speech.
