Ford Heights Teen Shoots Cousin During Fight: Sheriff

Cook County sheriff's detectives, Gang Unit officers, a police K-9 and a helicopter were at the scene.

An argument between two cousins ended with a bullet in one's leg, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.

Solomon Stewart IV, 17, of the 1400 block of East Lincoln Highway was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm after he pulled a gun from his waistband and fired one shot into his cousin's thigh while near the intersection of Diplomat and Woodlawn Roads in Ford Heights, according to police.

Stewart also was shot in the ankle with his own gun before fleeing in another relative's car, police said.

Cook County deputies got a description of the getaway car and captured Stewart at 13th Street and Cottage Grove, though police said they were unable to find the weapon.

Stewart and his cousin were treated for their injuries at St. James Hospital. The cousin told police Stewart had tried to rob him the night before and told him the only reason he was still allive was because they were cousins.

A judge set Stewart’s bail at $300,000. He is scheduled to appear in Markham Courthouse Sept. 15.
