Fuel Leak After Car Collides With Semi on State Street
State Street's southbound lane has been closed since around 2:15 p.m.
An accident on the 1100 block of State Street led to fuel leaking into the sewer Wednesday afternoon.
The accident occurred when a tractor-trailer collided with a car attempting to exit the as the truck was entering, fire officals say.
The car hit the truck's saddle tank, resulting in a deisel fuel spill onto State Street and into a storm sewer, according to Chicago Heights Fire Chief James Angell.

The department was able to patch the leak with putty and they are running about 2,000 gallons of BioSolve, a substance that reduces and eliminates flammable vapors, through the storm sewer, Angell said. The department has been in contact with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency about the spill, according to Angell.
