Girl Struck By Car on Rte. 30 in Serious Condition: Police

The driver of the car that struck the girl said she stopped in the middle of the road, according to police.

A juvenile girl is in stable but serious condition after she was struck by a car while crossing Route 30 at the intersection of Campbell Ave, according to police.

Police said the girl and a male individual were walking southbound on Campbell around noon when they began to cross Route 30. 

A male, minor driver in a silver 2005 Chevy Malibu heading eastbound on Route 30 claims to have seen the two individuals crossing, police say. According to him, the girl stopped in the middle of the street while the male accompanying her reversed direction to get out of the way. The driver missed the male, but struck the girl.

She was immediately transported to St. James Hospital and then airlifted to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, where she is still in stable but serious condition, according to police.

Chicago Heights Police Chief Charles Guiliani says the accident is currently under investigation by the Chicago Heights Police Department Accident Investigation Division and the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team to determine the exactly what happened.
