Hazards Draw Police Attention, Lead to DUI: Blotter

‘Six Beers’ And A DUI Charge


Rafael Rodriguez, 32, of the 100 block of Interocean Avenue, South Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08, failing to yield at an intersection, driving without proof of insurance and driving without a valid license, according to a report.

Rodriguez was stopped at about 3:41 a.m. near the intersection of 22nd Street and East End Avenue after police allegedly saw him speeding through an intersection, according to a report. He was unable to give the officer proof of insurance or a valid driver’s license. Police could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver. Rodriguez reportedly told police he had six beers that night. He was arrested after performing field sobriety tests. He also took a breath test while in police custody.

Rodriguez is due on June 3 in Markham court.

SATURDAY, MAY 4

Chicago Heights Driver Hit With DUI Charge


April K. Munoz, 19, of the 300 block of East 25th Street, Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance, disobeying a stop sign and improper lane use, according to a report.

Munoz was stopped at about 1:29 a.m. near the intersection of Chicago Road and Main Street after her car was seen drifting over the center road lines, according to the report. An officer reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. She was arrested after performing field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test while in custody.

Munoz is due on June 14 in Markham court.

Hazard Lights


Armando Ortiz, 31, of the 1300 block of Shields Avenue, Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08, disobeying a stop sign, driving without a valid license, driving without insurance and illegally transporting alcohol, according to a report.

Police stopped an SUV at about 1:36 a.m. near the intersection of 16th Street and East End Avenue after an officer noticed its hazard lights weren't on and that rolled through a stop sign, according to the report. When asked about the hazard lights, the driver said he was using his turn signals. Police reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath during the stop.

Ortiz, who failed to produce a driver’s license or proof of insurance, was arrested, according to a report. He later took a breath test while in police custody.
