Heights Man Found Shot Outside Gas Station

The victim, Robert Fortson, was pronounced dead at St. James Hospital.

Chicago Heights man with several gunshot wounds was found outside of a Lincoln Highway gas station Tuesday morning.

Just before 11 a.m. responded to a call about a shooting at the Mobil gas station in the 400 block of Lincoln Highway. When they arrived police found Robert Fortson, 40, laying in the parking lot with several gunshot wounds, according to police Head of Detectives Joseph Bruni.

personnel took Fortson to St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights where he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to police.

Police have a man in custody but have not released his name. An investigation into the death is ongoing.
