Heights Woman Dead After Gunshot Wound to the Face

Police say they have a suspect in custody.

Police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a Chicago Heights woman.

Michelle V. Peters, 30, of the 100 block of West Hickory Street, was found dead Tuesday night after being shot in her home, according to police.

"Chicago Heights Police Officers observed an unresponsive female white victim lying on the front room floor of the residence with blood coming from her head area," Sgt. Tom Rogers said in an email. "The female white victim had an apparent gunshot wound to the right side of her face."

The Chicago Heights Fire Department tried to revive the Peters, who was taken to . She was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m. Tuesday by St. James medical staff.

Chicago Heights Police told Sun-Times Media they have a suspect in custody but have not released a name yet.
