Hired Helper Attempts to 'Clean Out' Woman's Bank Account

A 68-year-old woman sought a caretaker for her mother and ended up getting the opposite, according to the police report.

The Chicago Heights woman told police she hired a 22-year-old Chicago woman to help take care of her elderly mother. On the evening of Oct. 25 the woman discovered someone had attempted to withdraw a total of $2,300 from her bank account.

The woman told the caretaker not to come back to her house and refused several subsequent calls from her. On the last phone call, the caretaker mistakenly left her phone on while she was talking to someone else, and the woman recorded her saying, "I'm just gonna clean out that whole account," according to the report.

The woman shared the recording with police. The woman told police no money was taken and that she had the account numbers changed.
