Mayor, Police Chief Commend Multi-Agency Sweep

Officials from the Illinois State Police, the Cook County Sheriff's Office and the Chicago Heights Police Department participated in a two-day sweep of criminal activity in the Heights.

Chicago Heights Mayor and Police Chief had high praise for a multi-agency community response detail that netted several arrests and citations, according to information released this week.

On March 30 and March 31, the Illinois State Police (ISP), the Cook County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and the Chicago Heights Police Department (CHPD) conducted a “Community Response” detail in Chicago Heights, according to a city statement released April 9.

The detail also included participating from the following agencies: ISP GA Units [Des Plaines and Elgin], ISP FIU, ISP SWAT, ISP District 15 Patrol, ISP District Chicago SET, ISP District 2 SET, Illinois Department of Corrections and the Illinois Attorney General's Office.

“I commend our police department, along with state and county law enforcement agencies who, by joining together, have confirmed their on-going commitment ‘To Serve and Protect,'" Gonzalez said.

"Their dedicated service, professional integrity and hard work in upholding the law is made evident by these results, which indicate a reduction in criminal activity," he continued.  "I want them to know how valuable their services are to the betterment of our City and greater south suburban area.”

Camilli said the detail is "another example of a successful and collaborative effort between our state, county and local law enforcement agencies and continues to demonstrate the effectiveness of such a collaboration when pooling all available resources in keeping our residents safe.”  

Totals from the details include:

Friday, March 30

  • 17 warrants served
  • 1 Firearm Identification (FOID) card recovered of 13 targets
  • 21 parolees made contact with out of 50 targets
  • 28 sex offenders in compliance, 19 noncompliance, no arrests

District Chicago/District 2 Saturation Enforcement Team (SET)

  • 12 citations issued
  • 50 written warnings
  • 5 arrests for warrants

Saturday, March 31

  • 18 citations issued
  • 33 written warnings
  • 1 DUI arrest
  • 1 aggravated unlawful use of weapon arrest
  • 1 possession of cannabis arrest
  • 1 canine dog "sniff"

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until the government is able to prove its charges in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
