The home is sacred. Those who break in are not. Here's a roundup of recent home burglary reports from Chicago Heights.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 1

Burglary While Owner Was On Vacation

Nearly $2,000 worth of jewelry was reported stolen from a home where the owner had been away on an extended vacation, according to a report. The homeowner left for Florida on Jan. 1 and returned May 1 to her house in the 1000 block of Ashland Avenue. Family members were keeping an eye on the place but it was unclear when they last checked. Windows were found opened and muddy footprints were discovered in the house.

Safe And Clothing Taken From Home

Burglars forced their way into a home in the 1200 block of Vincennes Avenue and took clothing and a safe, according to a report. A neighbor who refused to give his name provided a description of two suspects to police. He told officers the men walked east after breaking into the house.

Burglars Try To Break Into Basement

A basement door and window were damaged on a house in the 200 block of West 15th Street, according to a report. All other doors and windows were secured. The lock on the door was damaged but the burglar was unable to get inside the house. The owner believes the damage was done sometime between 7:30 p.m. April 26 and 9 a.m. April 27.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13

Scratches On Doorknobs

A homeowner found scratches on the front doorknob, front door frame and rear doorknob of her house in the 200 block of Bradley Drive, according to a report.
