Olympia Fields Police Blotter: Catalytic Converter Thefts at Metra Station Parking Lot

TUESDAY, APRIL 19

Suspended Licenses

  • Cedric Thompkins, 39, of Matteson, was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license.
  • Jose Perez, 21, of South Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license and child seat violation.

SATURDAY, APRIL 16

No Valid License

  • Octovio Valadez, 20, of South Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license and driving with an obstructed view.
  • Antonia Taylor, 24, of Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with not having a valid registration and improper use of registration.

Ninja-like iPhone Theft

A Hazel Crest man told police he left his iPhone on the counter at Advocate Medical Group, 4001 Vollmer Rd., and returned for it "within seconds" to find it was missing. The man said he asked employees and other people in the area, but they all said they did not see anything. An employee at the facility told police they do not have security cameras.

Suspended Plus Two Warrants

Corey D. Gray, 35, of Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license, according to reports. Police said Gray also had two warrants out of Tinley Park for failing to appear in court.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13

Catalytic Converter Thefts at Metra Station Parking Lot 

  • An Olympia Fields woman told police she parked her car in the lot of the 203rd Street Metra station. She said when she returned at 10:50 p.m. she noticed the exhaust system had been “tampered with.” The woman told police that upon taking the car to the dealership, she found out the catalytic converter had been removed. The dealership estimated the damage at $2,000, according to police.
  • A Matteson woman told police she parked her car in the lot of the 203rd Street Metra station around 6:30 a.m. to catch the train to Chicago. The woman said when she returned to her vehicle around 4:30 p.m. she noticed it was excessively loud. She checked under the vehicle and noticed the catalytic converter was missing with clean cuts to the exhaust pipe.

TUESDAY, APRIL 12

Doubly Suspended

Marcos Rojas, 25, of Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license after he was stopped on Lincoln Highway for having dim brake lights and an obstructed view, according to reports. Police said Rojas also had an active warrant out of Cook County for probation violation on a previous driving while suspended charge.
