Gout Prevents Sobriety Tests

James Jones, 46, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage after police stopped on Lincoln Highway for swerving, according to the report. Jones was asked to take three field sobriety tests, but only agreed to do one, telling police he has gout and could not perform the other two tests. Jones then refused to take breath test and told police he was over the legal limit because he had drank "two mixed drinks and a couple beers," police said.

Police report information is provided by the and other law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
