Police Blotter: 57-Year-Old Man Beaten By Four Gang Members

A Bottle of Cobra with the Speakers on Blast

Renee S. Aquilar, 43, of the 6000 block of West 89th Lane in Crown Point, IN, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police said they found her asleep in her car with the engine running in the first block of West Hickory Street. Police said Aquilar had music playing loudly and they found an open 40-ounce bottle of King Cobra malt liquor inside her vehicle.

Telephone Harassment

A 41-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she received numerous phone calls from people claiming to represent a collection agency, who said she has to pay them $500. The woman said the people never indicated what company they were representing and often called from blocked or private numbers.

Loose Dog

A 52-year-old Chicago Heights woman was issued citations when she was unable to produce a city dog license after her dog was seen loose in the 300 block of Boston Street, police said.

Drinking Leads to a Tango with Chango

A 41-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she was "getting drunk" with a homeless man, known only as "Chango," and his girlfriend. The woman said she got into a verbal argument with Chango and he punched her in the face and head numerous times. She was taken for treatment at St. James Hospital.

Thefts reported

  • A 55-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police her son stole a laptop from her bedroom. A witness, who lived in the same house, told police she saw the son open the bedroom doors with a knife and steal the laptop.
  • A 24-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police her car radio was stolen sometime between April 3 and 5. Police said the passenger's side window was pushed down, the dashboard trim around the radio was broken off and the wires to the radio were cut.
  • A 22-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police three 26-inch chrome rims were stolen from her balcony sometime between noon and 3:30 p.m. April 5. The woman said she suspects a man in whose car she left her apartment keys. A neighbor told police they saw the same man near the woman's home at the time in question.

Gang Beating

A 57-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he was waiting for the bus in the 2500 block of Chicago Road when four men got out of a minivan and asked him if he was a "G.D." The man said he told them he was too old to be involved in gang activity, and the men began punching and kicking him in the face and head. The man was transported to St. James Hospital and his current condition is unknown.
