Tuesday, March 22

Houseguest

A 20-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she had a friend spend the night at her home. The woman was later awakened by a cell phone call from the friend saying she had left the home and taken the victim's purse and all its contents, along with some of the victim's clothing, according to reports.

Damaged Property

A 37-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police someone "busted in" the windshield of her vehicle sometime between 10 p.m. March 21 and 5:45 a.m. March 22.

Monday, March 21

Burglary

A homeless man was taken into custody in connection with a burglary at Illiana Financial Credit Union in the 1000 block of Chicago Road after police said they responded to a burglary alarm and found him climbing through the building vents.

Retail Theft

Someone stole two bottles of Tylenol and a pencil sharpener from the Walgreens in the 1400 block of Western Avenue, an employee told police.

The Chaser

Andres J. Martinez, 22, of the 1500 block of Chicago Road, was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license, driving without a seatbelt on, driving without a valid registration and lack of insurance after police said they saw him chasing a woman in his car in the parking lot of the St. James Professional Building in the first block of East 15th Street. Martinez told police the woman was his girlfriend and they were having an argument, according to reports.

Peppered

A 57-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he was standing outside his home when an 18-year-old woman arrived and sprayed his face and torso with pepper spray before fleeing in an unknown direction.

Horseshoe Attack

A 54-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he was having an argument with another man, who struck him in the face with a metal horseshoe before fleeing on foot.

Trespassing

A 53-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with trespassing at the Pace bus terminal in the first block of East 16th Street after being told he was not allowed on the property, according to police.

Aggravated Assault

Gerardo Rangel, 40, of the first block of West 24th Street, was arrested at St. James Hospital in the 1400 block of Chicago Road and charged with aggravated assault after police said a woman told security he grabbed her by her shirt and tried to stab her.

Robbery

A 22-year-old Chicago Heights man told police six men robbed him at Daniel's Beauty Supply in the 400 block of West 14th Street. The man said one of the men grabbed his backpack while another offender tackled his legs, according to reports. Police said the offenders took the man's money and phone before hitting him in the face with a lock.
