Police Blotter: Accused Drunk Driver Mistakes the Heights for California

SATURDAY, JUNE 2

'Californian' Asleep at the Wheel

John P. Trotier, 30, of the first block of East 34th Street in Steger, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police found him asleep slumped over the steering wheel of a pickup truck with the engine running and the brake lights on, according to the report. After police were unable to wake Trotier, they put the car in park and removed the keys from the ignition. After finally waking Trotier, police asked him if he knew what town he was, to which he replied "California," according to the report. Police asked Trotier if he had a medical condition, to which he replied "Nope, I'm just (expletive) up," according to the report. A Breathalyzer revealed Trotier to be at nearly three times the legal limit for blood-alcohol content, police said.

Speaker Phone Fun

A 27-year-old Chicago Heights man told police his ex-girlfriend damaged his brother's truck by denting the front driver's side fender "by unknown means." While police were talking to the man, his ex called and threatened to kill him while the phone was on speaker mode, according to the report. Police were unable to locate the woman, according to the report. The man told police he was leaving his residence for the night to avoid any more problems.

DUI

Jimmy L. Tucker, 39, of the 1600 block of East 67th Street in Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him near the intersection of 14th Street and Edgewood Avenue just after 3 a.m., according to the report.

Phone Threats

Jeffery D. Smith, 35, of the 7300 block of Greenwood in Chicago, was arrested and charged with domestic assault on a misdemeanor after his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend told police he called her twice, asking if he could pick up his social security check from her house. After the woman told Smith she didn't receive the check, he responded, "If my money ain't there I'm gonna (expletive) you up," according to the report. Smith also threatened to go to her job and "make a scene," the woman told police.

TUESDAY, MAY 29

Jewelry Thief

Two Chicago Heights women, living on Lawrence Avenue, told police they discovered their deceased sister's jewelry was missing. One of the woman said she last saw the jewelry back in March, when she moved it from a previous location. The other woman told police she had last seen her jewelry just two days before. Both woman said an employee of Cash for Gold came by their residence, as well as other homes in the neighborhood, asking if they had any old gold they wanted to sell, according to the report.
