THURSDAY, AUG. 18

Two Victims Refuse to Name Attacker

A man and a woman who were reportedly beaten near the intersection of 16th Place and Euclid refused to tell police the name of their attacker, police said. The woman, who was scratched on the arms, told police that the male attacker had broken out her car windows with a brick. The male victim had lacerations on the back of his head and arm, according to the report. Both warned the officer that the attacker was armed with a pistol, police said. Police requested medical attention for the two through the Chicago Heights Fire Department, according to the report.

Man Hurt in Group Attack

A Chicago Heights man told police he was beaten after getting into an argument with a group of unknown men. The man was left with a split lip and an injured hand after the altercation in the 1400 block of Donovan. He was transported to St. James Medical Center for care, police said.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 17

Under the Influence on Franklin Street

Following up on a resident’s complaint of men loitering by an abandoned residence, police found two Chicago Heights men “highly intoxicated,” according to a police report. Fernando Valdez Jr., 20, of Deangelis Court, and Carlos Hernandez, 19, of Franklin Street, were found in an alley around 11:54 p.m. not far from Hernandez’s address, according to the report. The two are scheduled to appear in Chicago Heights village court on Oct. 6 on charges of being pedestrians under the influence.

Bring Back My Garbage Can

A Chicago Heights resident called police after observing an unknown woman making off with his garbage can. The man said that around 4 p.m. Wednesday, he spotted the woman removing a green Skyline garbage can from his residence in the 1400 block of Emerald Avenue.

Man Ejected for Allegedly Poaching, Pinching

A Chicago Heights man was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct for allegedly drinking other patrons’ alcoholic beverages at an area restaurant. Eric O. Jones, 32, of the 400 block of West 16th Street, annoyed patrons at Jimmy’s Restaurant by groping dancers, talking in a loud voice and drinking their drinks, according to the report. When interviewed by the officer at the restaurant at 410 W. 14th St. about the allegations, Jones screamed, “Officer ... I know you,” police said. Despite this claim of acquaintance, Jones was transported to the Chicago Heights Police Department and charged.

MONDAY, AUG. 15

Firefighters Extinguish Blaze

Chicago Heights firefighters safely put out a blaze at an area business and treated two men. The Alco Springs Industries Inc. building, 2300 Euclid Ave., was evacuated around 9:20 a.m. after a “unit coiler” caught fire, police said. A Chicago Heights man and Steger man were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but did not require hospitalization.
