THURSDAY, AUG. 11

Funny Money Won’t Buy Burrito Loco

An El Burrito Loco customer who got back $10 in change at the Mexican restaurant tried to pay for another meal the next day with the same $10 bill, only to be told it was counterfeit, police said. The Olympia Fields woman told police that the restaurant cashier gave her the $10, so she thought nothing of using it to pay for the next day’s meal at the eatery, located at 686 W. 14th Pl. The store manager told police he didn’t know if the counterfeit bill was given to the customer the day before. 

Chicagoan’s Heights Property Burglarized

A Chicago man reported that several appliances were stolen from his Chicago Heights property, even though he had changed the locks on an unruly tenant. The man went to his property on Lawrence and found the following items missing: a water tank, valued at $600; a furnace, valued at $2,000; a stove, valued at $600; an ice box, valued at $800; and a washer and dryer, worth $1,000, according to the report.

Domestic Battery Charge for Chicago Heights Woman

A Chicago Heights woman was charged with domestic battery after allegedly pulling the glasses off a male relative’s face and punching him in the left eye. Mary A. Blakemore, 51, of the 1100 block of Claude Street, was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery. The victim told police Blakemore was intoxicated at the time of the attack.

Stranger Knocks at Star Motel

A Chicago Heights woman was distressed after a man she didn’t know became intoxicated and began beating on her hotel room door and yelling, police said. That man, James O. Johnson, 27, of the 200 block of Beacon Boulevard, was arrested and charged with trespassing. During the first police response to the woman’s call for help, officers found nothing, but after a second call, they found Johnson, who was given an Aug. 30 court date in Markham.

Suspicious Man Poses as Newspaper Peddler

A Chicago Heights woman became suspicious when a man posing as a SouthtownStar vendor attempted to get her to open her door and “sign” for a copy of the newspaper, police said. The woman told police that the man, described as Hispanic, in his mid-20s, with short black hair, came up to her porch and offered her a copy of the newspaper. When the woman asked the man to drop the paper on her porch, he attempted to get her to sign for it, police said. 

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 10

Don’t Pimp My Ride 

A Chicago Heights man told police he lent his bike to a one-eyed man known only as “Pimp,” and the bike and “Pimp” now cannot be located. The missing bicycle is described as a pink, green, and black Huffy 10-speed with a case on the rear.

Angry Ex-Tenant Whacks Landlord, Hurls VCR

A Chicago Heights landlord had a confrontation with a former female tenant that turned violent, police said. The man told police he argued with the woman and she then punched him in the left hand and back of the head. Apparently still wrathful, the angry ex-tenant then hurled a VCR through the north living room window of the 13th Street residence, and fled before officers arrived, police said.

Budgets for Booze, Not School Supplies?

A Chicago Heights woman quarreled with her boyfriend after he spent the couple’s money on alcohol instead of school supplies, police said. The woman told police she returned to the home to find the man drinking. Angry by the misspent funds, she broke her boyfriend’s bottle, but he retaliated by grabbing a second bottle and hurling it at her car, police said. The woman’s headlight was shattered, according to the report.

Came Back to Steal Bed, Too

A Chicago Heights woman whose residence has been repeatedly burglarized has now had her bedroom set stolen, police said. The woman returned to her home in the 1400 block of Center to discover her black, wood king bed with mattress and box spring had been stolen, as well as her black dressers, mirror and water meter, according to the report. The woman’s neighbor was uncooperative, police said. The bedroom set was valued at $900. This is the third time the woman’s home has been burglarized, according to the report.

Ex-boyfriend from Hell?

A Chicago Heights woman told police her ex-boyfriend from Naperville is threatening her by phone. From Aug 1 to Aug. 10, the man sent a total of 100 text messages and called the woman at work several times each day, the woman said. The text messages said that the man would “kill her,” “blow up her car,” and “knock her head in,” and one said “I’m watching you,” according to the report. During the threatening phone calls, the man repeated his threats to kill the woman and blow up her car, police said. Police advised the woman of how to pursue a complaint against her ex.

‘Purse To Go’ at Aurelio’s

An Aurelio’s Pizza employee discovered that her purse was stolen while she was working at the restaurant, at 1545 Western Ave., police said. The woman’s handbag was described as yellow, and it contained an iPhone, lipstick and paperwork, according to the report. The purse was apparently taken from a counter inside the business, police said.
