Police Blotter: Cop Draws Gun on Threatening Group

SATURDAY, JUNE 23

Break It Up

Thomas C. Bell, 19, of the 40000 block of Harris Road in Hamilton, Miss., was arrested and charged with improper walking in the roadway after police saw a large group in the street and yards in the 1200 block of Lincoln Highway, according to the report. Police told the group to break up several times but some did not comply, including Bell, according to the report. As police took him into custody, several others threatened to "batter the police," and walked toward officers, according to the report. An officer then pulled his gun and the group fled, police said. 

DUI

Tafawa O. Davis, 42, of the 1700 block of North Mansards in Griffith, Ind., was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him near the intersection of 14th Street and Center Avenue just before 1 a.m., according to the report.

TUESDAY, JUNE 19

Traffic Blocking and Drugs

Charles A. Williams, 42, of the 2300 block of Halsted Street, was arrested and charged with improper walking on a roadway after police saw him blocking traffic near the intersection of 14th Street and Wentworth Avenue, according to the report. Upon seeing police, Williams screamed an obscenity and ran southbound on Wentworth, dodging traffic to cross 14th Street. Police captured Williams and asked him why he ran into traffic, to which he responded "I ran because I'm dirty, I got dope in my pocket," according to the report. After taking Williams into custody, police discovered five bags of marijuana and three bags of cocaine in his possession, according to the report.

Battery

Joseph H. Yarbrough IV, 37, of the 200 block of South Orchard Avenue in Kankakee, was arrested and charged with two counts of battery and violation of an active order of protection after his girlfriend told police they got into an argument that led to him hitting her in the face. A witness told police she tried to intervene but Yarbrough pushed her in the chest. The woman and the witness fled to the Chicago Heights Police Department and were followed by Yarbrough, who was taken into custody, according to the report. 

Neighborly Advice

A 27-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she was in an argument with her neighbor when at her home when the neighbor assaulted her. The neighbor told the woman "You better watch out because something bad might happen to you soon," according to the police report. The woman told police she has had ongoing problems with her neighbor.
