Police Blotter: DUI and Dual Liquor Thefts

Chicago Heights police reports, June 17-18.

MONDAY, JUNE 18

DUI

Thomas J. Dobrzeniecki, 29, of the 21700 block of Orion Avenue in Sauk Village, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him upon seeing him drive eastbound in a westbound lane on Joe Orr Road, according to the report. Police saw a water bottle containing an alcoholic beverage in Dobrzeniecki's center console and smelled alcohol on his breath, according to the report. Asked if he had been drinking, Dobrzeniecki told police "I've had a few beers." After performing field sobriety tests, Dobrzeniecki was taken into custody. He was also charged with disobeying a police officer, improper lane usage, driving without valid insurance, illegal transportation of open alcohol and blood-alcohol content above .08, according to the report.

Rough Father's Day

A 27-year-old Chicago Heights man told police a Steger man came into his home and threatened him, stating "If you get up, I'll put you down," and "I'll blow this house up with you in it." The man was angry because his kids, who live at the victim's address, had not called him on Father's Day, according to the report. Police searched the area, but did not locate the mad dad.

Liquor Theft

Cortez Tarver, 37, who is listed as homeless, was arrested and charged with trespassing, theft and possession of cannabis after police had reported two separate incidents involving Tarver the same day. In the first incident Tarver threatened to shoot three people as they were picking up trash in a yard, according to the report. The three declined to press charges. In the second incident, an employee of Center Liquor told police Tarver entered the store despite being told he was not allowed in on several occasions. Tarver took two bottles of liquor and left the store only to be confronted by police, according to the report. Before police took Tarver into custody, he dropped a cigarette containing cannabis, according to the report.

More Liquor Theft

Lonnie Smith, 49, of the 200 block of West 16th Street, was arrested and charged with theft after the owner of Geno's Goat Club told police he took a bottle of beer and a bottle of vodka off a counter and ran out of the store. Police saw Smith at 14th Street and Chicago Road and took him back to Gino's where the owner identified him as the person that took the alcohol, according to the report.
