Police Blotter: 'DVD Dude' Steals Heights Resident's Car

Chicago Heights Police reports, April 26-28.

SATURDAY, APRIL 28

DUI

Gerardo Alvarez, 29, of the 200 block of East 23rd Street, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him near the intersection of Union Avenue and 22nd Street just after 1:45 a.m., according to the report.

DVD Dude, Where's My Car?

A 50-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he invited a man, known only as "DVD Dude" into his Hickory Street home. He then left the Dude alone in his living room only to return and see he was missing, along with the victim's keys and car, according to the report. Police found the car a few houses down with front-end damage and no sign of DVD Dude, according to the report.

Public Intoxication

John T. Schwellenback, 55, of the first block of West Main Street in Chicago Heights, was arrested and charged with public intoxication after police were told he was spitting at cars and causing a traffic hazard near the intersection of Main Street and Chicago Road. Police found Schwellenback dancing in front of Gyro Express and could smell alcohol on his breath, according to the report. He was taken into custody for safety reasons, police said.

THURSDAY, APRIL 26

Mattress Money Stolen

A 53-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she left her residence at Thornwood Apartments from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. to go to class and returned to find her driver's license and a blank $200 money order were missing from beneath her mattress. The woman presented police with a note indicating Thornwood maintenance had been in her apartment around 10:55 a.m. on the same day, according to the report.
