Police Blotter: Former Tenant Accused of Trying to Blow Up Apartment

Attemped Explosion?

A security guard at Thornwood Apartments told police she was making her rounds when she smelled natural gas and tracked it to one of the apartments. She discovered the stove in the apartment had been left on with no flame, and she suspected a disgruntled former tenant of leaving on to cause a fire or explosion in the complex, according to the report. The tenant had been evicted after police previously discovered narcotics in the apartment, according to the report.

Shattered Windows

A 59-year-old Olympia Fields man told police his car was parked in the 1200 block of Lincoln Highway around 9:30 p.m. when someone shattered the two driver's side windows and the front windshield.

Bloody Battery

Humberto Gonzalez, 25, of the 1600 block of Aberdeen Street, was arrested and charged with domestic battery after a Chicago Heights woman told police she was in an argument with him when he punched her in the face wth a closed fist, leaving a cut on her lower lip and blood on her face, according to the report. The woman refused medical attention and police signed a complaint on her behalf, according to the report.

Angry DUI

Christopher W. Canali, 35, of the 1300 block of Campbell Avenue, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was stopped in his driveway for failure to signal and not using headlights, according to the report. When asked to take Breathalzer test, Canali yelled, "I'm not doing that! There's no way I can pass that test," police said. After being taken into custody, Canali became irate and yelled obsenities at police, stating, "I'm your neighbor, you're ruining my (profanity) life," according to the report.

Kicking and Screaming Over Money

Johnnie E. Gordon, 34, of the 1600 block of Ingrid Lane, was arrested and charged with domestic assault and criminal damage to property after police found him yelling outside a woman's home on Mason Court. "I'm gonna kill that (profanity)... I want my $250," he yelled, according to the police report. Police took Gordon into custody only after he refused to stop screaming, according to the report. The woman told police Gordon also kicked the door of the building, denting it.
