Police Blotter: Handy Burglars Lift Socket Sets, Hammers and a Chainsaw

Residential Burglary

A 46-year-old Blue Island man told police an apartment complex he is "rehabbing" was broken into between 3 p.m. on Feb. 27 and 6:45 p.m  on Feb. 28. Several building tools, including a handsaw, hammers, screwdrivers and two ladders, were taken, according to police.

A 56-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police a woman from Park Forest damaged her front windshield. Meanwhile, in a separate report, a man and a woman who live in the same house as the victim are wanted by police after a Chicago Heights man told police they came to his house threatening to shoot someone. 

Exhausting Burglary

About $1,000 was stolen from an office cabinet at Liang's Garden Restaurant in the 400 block of Lincoln Highway between 11:20 a.m. Feb. 27 and 2:40 p.m. Feb. 28, according to police. The owner of the business told police the burglar entered the building through the exhaust system on the roof.

Bottle Burglar

Rashad A. Holmes, 22, of the 14500 block of Union Avenue in Harvey, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle after a Blue Island woman told police she saw him take a baby bottle out of the backseat of her car in the parking lot of St. James Hospital, police said.

"You smell like Spam"

Amy Hernandez, 35, of the 300 block of West 14th Place, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after she was stopped near the intersection of 14th Street and Chicago Road for swerving across the double line, police said. According to the police report, after being taken into custody, Hernandez told the arresting officer, "You got nothing better to do than [expletive] me? You smell like Spam."

DUI

Robert D. Harris, 27, of the 400 block of Niagara Road in Park Forest was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was stopped in the 500 block of West 14th Street for swerving into the lane of oncoming traffic, police said. A breath sample revealed that Harris had a blood alcohol content of .106, police said.

Chainsaw Theft

A 45-year-old Chicago Heights man told police someone broke into his garage and stole a chainsaw and case containing sockets between 9 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. Feb. 27.
