Police Blotter: Husband and Wife Attacked Outside Deli

SUNDAY, JUNE 3

DUI and an Angry Passenger

Christina B. Garza, 27, of the 800 block of South 4th Avenue in Kankakee, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped her just after 3 a.m. for swerving into the curb on Ashland Avenue, according to the report. Police asked Garza if she had been drinking, to which she responded, "Yeah, but not since 5," according to police. As police were having Garza complete field sobriety tests, her passenger, Melissa V. Aguilar, 25, of the 100 block of East 24th Street, told police the vehicle belonged to her and asked them to stop conducting the tests. When police said they could not, the Aguilar became irate and shouted obscenities at them, according to the report. When police asked Aguilar to exit the vehicle, she refused and continued to shout obscenities. Aguilar was taken into custody and charged with obstructing a peace officer, police said. 

DUI

Cerell Jimerson, 27, of the 1000 block of Lexington Circle in Ford Heights, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after police stopped him for speeding and swerving on 14th Street, according to the police report. Police smelled alcohol on Jimerson's breath and noticed slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, according to the report. After having him take field sobriety tests, police placed Jimerson into custody and issued him citations for improper lane use and illegal transportation of alcohol, according to the report.

Beer Biking

Shannon M. Greene, 40, of the 19600 block of Oakwood Avenue in Lynwood, was arrested and charged with drinking in a public place and littering after police saw him riding a bicycle on Halsted with an open can of beer, according to the report. Greene threw the can of beer on the sidewalk when police saw him according to the report.

Beating from 'Fleming'

A 41-year-old Park Forest man told police he was sitting in the car while his wife was in 16th Street Meat and Deli making purchase when a man, known only as "Fleming," approached the car. The man told police he let down his window to see what Fleming wanted and was asked to open his driver's side door, which he refused to do. Fleming then approached the driver's side door and man got out of the car and confronted him, according to the report. Fleming then attacked the man, punching him in the face and body. When the man's wife exited the store and tried to break up the fight Fleming punched her in the face as well before fleeing the area, according to the report. The man was bleeding on both sides of his face but refused medical attention, police said.
