Police Blotter: Man Chokes Pregnant Girlfriend, Escapes Police

FRIDAY, MARCH 2

Two Bottles, One DUI, No Breathalyzer

Calvin A. Buckner, 39, of the 300 block of Maple Street in Pella, IA, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police found him parked in the 1500 block of Shield Avenue with an empty Budweiser bottle in his cup holder, according to the report. As Buckner exited the vehicle police noticed a second bottle of beer in the driver's seat, this one unopened, according to the report. Buckner told police he had a few drinks but refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

Vicious Texts

A 35-year-old Chicago Heights man told police his former girlfriend was sending him threatening text messages because she was upset that he would not give her money to bail their son out of jail. Police saw several offensive texts from the mad mom calling her ex everything from "gay" to "child rapist," according to the report. Police advised the man of complaint procedures.

THURSDAY, MARCH 1

Pregnant Woman Choked

A 19-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she had been arguing with her boyfriend because he refused to help carry bags to the laundromat, when he became angry, pushed her to the ground and choked her. When police arrived at the couple's home to detain the angry boyfriend inside the residence, he broke a window and jumped out of it to escape, police said. The woman, who is five months pregnant, said he had been threatening to hurt her, according to the report.

Car Burglary at Car Hop

An employee of Car Hop in the 200 block of Halsted Street told police someone broke the side-view mirror off one of the company's vehicles before shattering the passenger's side window and taking the stereo out of the vehicle. The car was parked in the rear lot of the building, according to the report.

DUI

Benjamin J. Stocker, 35, of the 1300 block of Cougar Run in Manteno, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him near the intersection of Campbell Avenue and Country Club Road just after 10:30 a.m., according to the report.
