Police Blotter: Man in Wheelchair Pistol-Whipped During Robbery Attempt

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8

DUI

Richard Franco, 22, of the 600 block of Lowe Street, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him for driving at night without lights on, according to reports. Franco was asked to take field sobriety tests after police noticed slurred speech and smelled alcohol on his breath. Franco refused any tests and was taken into custody, according to police.

Beating, Attempting to Rob Man in Wheelchair

A 33-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he was traveling in his motorized wheelchair in the 1600 block of Union Avenue when two men came up behind him, asking, “Where the money at?” One of the men revealed a handgun and told the victim he would shoot him if he looked at him, according to the report. The two men searched the victim's clothing for money but couldn’t find any. The men fled, but not before hitting the victim in his head with the gun twice, police said. Paramedics took the victim to St. James Hospital for treatment.

Prescription Pill Porch Pilferer

A 49-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police her monthly prescription medicine was supposedly delivered to her on June 1, but she never received it. She said she believes someone stole the medicine from her porch.

Turf War

The athletic director at Marian Catholic High School told police someone cut a 3' x 3' piece of turf out of the football field.

The Tender Slap

A 59-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she got into an argument with an unknown person in the parking lot of the Tender Trap, 109 S. Halsted St. The person then hit the woman in the head multiple times before fleeing the area, according to reports.

Domestic Battery

Juan Garcia, 34, of the 400 block of West Hickory Street, was arrested and charged with domestic battery after his girlfriend told police he punched her in the face and bit her, according to reports. Police listed Garcia as a member of the Latin Kings street gang.
