Police Blotter: Man Receives Fake Check and Two TVs from Unknown Person

Mysterious Gifts

A 40-year-old Sauk Village man told police he received, via FedEx overnight, a check in his name from a North Carolina bank for more than $6,000. The check was from a man in Abingdon, MD, according to the report. Police asked a representative from the bank about the check, who confirmed it was fraudulent, according to the report. The Sauk Village man told police he also received two large-screen televisions in December from a person unknown.

Aggravated Assault

Tevin S. Watkins, 18, of the 300 block of Nassau Street in Park Forest, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after a 28-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police he confronted her about her homeless cousin. The woman said Watkins told her if the cousin didn't get him his money he would "shoot through your house with while your baby is inside," according to the report. Police were called back to the woman's residence 45 minutes later where Watkins was found walking with two others and was then taken into custody, police said.

Wii Burglary

A 63-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she received a call from her alarm monitoring company on Dec. 24 about the alarm going off. Police went to the home and discovered the door was unsecured but said nothing appeared to be disturbed. When the woman returned from out of town, she noticed her laptop and Nintendo Wii to be missing, along with one of the Wii controllers, according to the report.

Stolen Batteries and an Active Warrant

Kyle Irons, 56, of the 400 block of West 16th Place, was arrested and charged with retail theft after security at Ultra Foods accused him of trying to leave the store without paying for several batteries he was carrying, according the report. An employee of the store and security both tried to detain Irons, who pushed and pulled to get away, but was eventually subdued, according to the report. Irons initially misidentified himself to police but was later correctly identified and revealed to have an active arrest warrant for dangerous drugs, police said.

Stealing from a Church

A video camera was stolen from Beacon Hill Church on Plymouth Drive, between Dec. 26 and Dec. 28, according to the report.
