Police Blotter: Man Says Paying Taxes Permits Him to Sleep at Police Station

Chicago Heights police reports, July 30-Aug. 9

TUESDAY, AUG. 9

Police Station is Not a Hotel

Police found David Franks, 24, of Bourbonnais, sleeping on a couch in the police station. Police told Franks, who said he was waiting for the bus, he could not sleep on the couch but Franks argued that he "pays taxes and should be allowed to sleep there," according to the report. After being escorted out of the station, Franks called 911 three times, complaining about not being allowed to sleep on the couch, the report said. Franks then said his taxes had earned him the right to sleep in the parking lot and sat down in the driving lane. Police arrested Franks and charged him with abusing the 911 system and disorderly conduct.

Domestic Battery

Eric Cross, 32, of the 400 block of West 16th Street, was arrested and charged with domestic battery after his ex-girlfriend told police she was holding her infant daughter when Cross began striking her in the face with a closed fist, causing the victim's head to go through a wall. The woman said Cross hit her about 15 times before she handed her daughter to someone else and threw a bed frame at him. Cross fled but was picked up by police on 16th Street, according to the report. Police said Cross was highly intoxicated when taken into custody. Paramedics treated the woman at the scene.
