Steering Column Damaged in Theft Attempt

A Chicago Heights woman discovered that someone unsuccessfully tried to steal her car. The woman checked her 1995 green Oldsmobile Cutlass parked in the lot of 14 Olympic Village around 7:45 a.m. and found the driver's door pried open and the steering column damaged, police said. Nothing was taken from inside the vehicle, according to the report.

Chandelier, DVD Player, Stereo Stolen

A Chicago Heights resident reported that several items were stolen from her home. The woman said the burglar apparently forced entry into the residence on the 100 block of W. 19th Street, stealing a black chandelier, a Panasonic DVD player and a stereo, according to the report.

He's Not a Good Neighbor, She Says

A Chicago Heights woman sought help after she was struck by a male neighbor, police said. The woman, who resides on Hickory Street, was talking to the man when an argument developed and the man punched her on the left side of her head, according to the report. The woman saw the man flee east on Hickory, police said. The woman was advised how to file a complaint.

Man Says Teen Threw Garbage, Brick

A Chicago Heights man sought help from police after an 18-year-old female friend from Ford Heights became angry and threw garbage and a brick, according to a police report. The woman became enraged when the man asked her to leave, and she began to strew garbage about his front yard, police said. She then hurled a brick through a large window on the north side of his home, according to the report.

Metal Thefts at PACE, Abandoned Building

Someone removed a metal fence panel from a PACE bus station, police said. The panel was removed from the west side of the bus station at 46 E. 16th St., according to the report. Also that Friday, metal theft at an abandoned building on the 100 block of West Elmwood was discovered, police said. In that theft, 10 to 20 feet of copper wire was stripped from the home, damaging the line from the water meter, according to the report. It was not known what connection, if any, there was between these metal thefts and others around Chicago Heights.

DUI Charge After Card Game

A Chicago Heights woman who told police she had three "good shots" while playing cards at home was charged with driving under the influence. Ann P. Williams, 67, of the 1900 block of Division Street, was pulled over when an officer conducting a seat belt check noted her driving erratically, police said. After the officer curbed Williams' Hyundai Sonata at the corner of 14th Street and Center Avenue, the officer noted Williams had bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, according to the report. When asked to produce her driver's license, Williams pulled out a state identification card, which she insisted was her driver's license, police said. The officer then asked the woman to step out of the car for a field sobriety test, at which time the officer noted Williams had trouble opening the car door and had not put the vehicle in park, according to the report. Williams refused to provide a breath sample for alcohol testing, police said. She was charged with driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license.
