Funny Money Won't Buy Gas at Shell

A clerk at the Shell gas station at 1401 State St. in Chicago Heights ripped up a $50 bill given to him by a Harvey man after the clerk realized the money was counterfeit, police said. The clerk used a marker to determine that the bill was fake, according to the report. The Harvey man told police he found the $50 bill at the Citgo station in Ford Heights and did not know it was fake, police said.

Ring Vanishes at Area Tanning Salon

A customer trying to avoid a wedding ring tan line discovered after her tanning session that her ring had vanished, police said. The victim told police she was visiting Room #12 of the Evening Sun, 329 Halsted St., and had removed her diamond wedding band. After her tanning session, the woman left, forgetting her jewelry, police said. When she returned, the ring was gone, according to the report. 

Vacant Property Struck by Metal Thieves

A Lansing realtor discovered that someone had vandalized a vacant property, police said. The realtor was visiting the property in the 1200 block of Otto Boulevard when he discovered that the rear door of the property had been forced open, according to the report. The realtor discovered that copper piping had been ripped from an interior wall by the burglars, police said.

Woman Upset by Youths on Porch

A Chicago Heights woman called police after she saw two teenagers on her porch in the 1600 block of School St. The woman told police that she heard a noise around 11 p.m., and she then saw two male teens on her porch. Although the woman feared that the teens were attempting to enter the residence, there was no damage to the window, according to the report.

Walking Under the Influence at Ultra Foods

A Chicago Heights man was charged with public intoxication after police observed him staggering through the parking lot of Ultra Foods, 571 W. 14th St., according to the report. Robert Triplett, 28, of the 1900 block of Ashland Ave., told police he had been drinking all day, police said. A store employee told police that Triplett had entered the store earlier and was stumbling as he walked and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Triplett is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 25 at the Chicago Heights police department.
