Police Blotter: Retired Cop Pays for Would-Be Thief's Goods

Chicago Heights police reports, June 20.

Kind-Hearted Cop

An employee of Walgreen's on Western Avenue told police a 47-year-old Park Forest woman tried to leave the store with around $13 worth of items without paying. A retired Cook County police officer saw the incident and detained the woman, notifying the store manager, according to the report. After police arrived the manager rectified the situation, allowing the woman to pay for the items she attempted to steal by using her LINK card, according to the report. The retired cop paid for the items she could not use her LINK card to buy, police said. No charges were filed against the woman.

Stranger in the House

An 11-year-old Chicago Heights boy told police he thought someone locked him out of his 21st Street home and that he looked into the bathroom window to find someone he didn't know was inside the house. After the boy asked the man who he was the intruder hid somewhere in the house, according to the report. A 33-year-old man helped the boy force a window open and get into the house. Despite no one seeing the man exit the house, police did not find anyone inside, according to the report.

Man With a Gun

Police saw a man come from behind Aurelio's Pizza on Western Street while it was closed and tried to talk to him, according to the report. The man then ran southbound on Todd Street to Park Forest and police lost sight of him. While the man was running, police noticed he was carrying a black semi-automatic pistol in his right hand, according to the report. Police described the man as being between the ages of 19 and 22. He was wearing a white T-shirt, camouflage shorts and a baseball cap at the time of the incident.

Violent Ex-Girlfriend?

A 33-year-old Chicago Heights man told police his ex-girlfriend had been calling and text messaging him since he ended their relationship. The ex told him she would have her brothers kill him and that she was going to blow up his car, according to the report. The man said he believed his angry ex was at Smith Park in Chicago Heights but police did not see her there, according to the report.
