Police Blotter: Ride Home Ends With a Punch in the Face

MONDAY, NOV. 28

Theft at Salvation Army

A 75-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she was shopping at the Salvation Army, 150 N. Halsted St., and left her purse in her shopping cart. When she looked back in her car, the purse was missing, according to the report. Employees of the Salvation Army said there are no video cameras in the building, according to the report.

Burglary

A 51-year-old Mokena woman told police her vehicle was parked at First Hope Church, 1633 Wilson St., when some broke into it and stole her purse, containing $100, a cell phone, credit cards and several other items. The sunroof of the vehicle was shattered and a large rock was in the back seat, according to the report.

THURSDAY, NOV. 24

Bad Ride Home

A 21-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she was dropping her friend off in the 300 block of West 15th Place when the man became enraged with her and punched her in the side of her face and pulled her hair. The 22-year-old friend then fled on foot up Ashland Avenue, according to the report.

DUI

Jesus Garcia-Rubio, 37, of the 18400 block of Western Avenue in Homewood, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was stopped for speeding on Halsted Street, according to the report. Asked if he had been drinking, Garcia-Rubio said he had five beers about two hours before driving, according to the report. A Breathalyzer test revealed Garcia-Rubio had a blood-alcohol content level of nearly three times the legal limit, police said. He was also charged with speeding and not having a valid driver's license.
