MONDAY, AUG. 29

Gun Threat with Cop Nearby

A Harvey man was charged with assault and trespassing after he threatened a Chicago Heights man within the hearing range of a police officer, police said. Kevin Goodwin, 57, of the 200 West block of 157th Place, said he was going to get his gun and shoot after the other man attempted to open a door to a building Goodwin had entered, police said. The officer then ordered Goodwin from the building on 14th Street, and the owner was notified, according to the report. Both the man who accused Goodwin and the building's owner pressed charges, police said. Goodwin is scheduled to appear in Markham Court on Sept. 30.

Copper, Tools Stolen

An employee reported that someone stole an copper wire, a tool chest and assorted tools from a Chicago Heights business. The theft at Plant Marvel, 371 E. 16ht St., was discovered by an employee, and an officer discovered that a door frame was damaged, according to the report. The detective division was notified.

SUNDAY, AUG. 28

Dumpster Fire

An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of West Joe Orr Road around 12:59 a.m. and found a large trash bin fire. The extinguished the blaze, with no injuries reported. It was not known how the contents of the Skyline Dumpster ignited, police said.

Beatdown Near Elks Lodge

A Chicago Heights man reported that he was beaten near the historic Elks Lodge building. The man, who police believed to be intoxicated, requested medical help and was taken to by the Chicago Heights Fire Department. 

Loose Dog Upsets Neighbor

A Chicago Heights resident told police she's tired of the neighbor's dog chasing her family through her yard. The woman told police that the German shepherd eludes its owner and repeatedly enters her property. Police went to the owner's home in the 200 block of East Joe Orr Road and the owner showed them proof that the animal had been vaccinated, police said. However, the pet owner received a citation for allowing the animal to run at large, according to the report.

Bows, Weights, TV Stolen from Ashland Home

A Chicago Heights man discovered that someone stole his expensive bows, as well as weight-lifting equipment and television, police said. The thief or thieves apparently entered the residence in the 1600 block of Ashland Avenue by breaking a large window, according to the report. They took two bows described as Calico Sky Archer brand, valued at $800 each, as well as 200 pounds of weights and a 32-inch Phillips flat-screen television valued at $600, police said. 

Metal Theft Causes Basement Flood

A Chicago Heights man discovered a flooded basement caused by metal theft, police said. The basement of a residence in the 400 block of East 22nd Street had three inches of standing water after copper pipes were ripped from the home, according to the report. Upstairs walls also were damaged and pipes were ripped out, and an air conditioning unit was stolen, according to the report. The homeowner told police the thieves left the back door open.
