Police Blotter: Woman Awakens to Her Car On Fire

Chicago Heights police reports, Nov. 2-3

THURSDAY, NOV. 3

Parked Car Fight

Lorameu Norwood, 20, of the 400 block of Hickory Street in Chicago Heights, was charged with battery. Police said Norwood approached a parked car in front of her home around 3 p.m. and, reaching through the driver’s side window, began punching a woman and pulling her hair in an attempt to drag her out. Norwood soon fled back into the home, where police questioned her, according to the report.

Car Fire

The Chicago Heights Fire Department was called around 4:30 a.m. to put out a car fire in the 300 block of 15th Place, police said. The car owner told police she heard her alarm go off and, looking out her home window, saw that the interior was on fire. Police said the car was towed for safety reasons and for further investigation.

Domestic Battery

Willis L. Wiley, 31, of the 0-100 block of 16th Street in Chicago Heights, was charged with domestic battery. Police said Wiley punched a woman about her body and back inside his home following an argument around 2:15 p.m.

Trespass on School Grounds

Deandre P. Burns, 19, of the 600 block of Brookline Street in Chicago Heights, was charged with criminal trespass to property. Police said Burns stepped foot on Bloom High School grounds around 3 p.m. He was recently banned from for his involvement in a fight.

Scavenging

Earl L. Primer, 47, and Leroy Nelson, 51, both of the 400 block of 14th Street in Chicago Heights, were charged with scavenging without a license. Police said they saw Primer and Nelson loading a shopping cart with parts of a fence surrounding a vacant home in the 1300 block of Washington Street around 10 a.m.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 2

More Scavenging

Another two men, Antwon C. Powell, 24, of the 1900 block of Michigan City Road in Calumet City, and Deshawn D. Harris, 20, of the 300 block of Roberta Lane in Chicago Heights, were charged with scavenging without a license. Police said they saw Powell and Harris loading their truck near Chicago Road and Greenbriar Avenue with steel rods that did not belong to them around noon. The owner of the rods did not wish to sign complaints, police said, so officers signed their own.

Quick Change Artists

A manager at a movie theater in the 1300 block of Hilltop Avenue told police that a man and woman stole $153 from a cash register by confusing a cashier while breaking large bills, in what’s known as a “quick change” scheme. They were both described as black, about 5-feet, 5-inches tall and weighing 180 pounds.
