Police Find 28 Grams of Marijuana in Car: Blotter

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6

Car Fire

Firefighters extinguished a car fire at about 2 a.m. near 476 E. 16th St, according to a police report. The engine and exterior were damaged. The owner had the car removed.

A Matter Of $10

A man was struck and robbed of $10 at about 1:49 a.m. near 1704 Chicago Rd., according to a police report. The victim told police the attacker came from out of nowhere and punched him in the face. He then grabbed the money out of the victim's hand and ran away. The victim refused medical treatment. A search of the area failed to turn up a suspect.

Marijuana Charge

Enrique Martinez, Jr., 19, of the 700 block of Grant Avenue No. 1B, in Chicago Heights, was charged with possession of marijuana, speeding and driving without valid insurance, according to a police report. An officer stopped Martinez for speeding at about 6:01 a.m. near the intersection of Route 30 and Edgewood Avenue. Police allegedly could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car and Martinez. The driver told police there was marijuana under the passenger-side seat. The officer allegedly found a bag that weighed 28.7 grams and had a substance that tested positive for marijuana. He was booked and is due in Markham court on April 17.

MONDAY, MARCH 4

DUI Charge For Crete Driver

Clifton H. Brown, 47 of the 3500 block of Nicolette Drive in Crete, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, according to a Chicago Heights police report. Witnesses called police to say a silver Toyota was swerving in the road. Police found the car at about 4:47 p.m. near 2308 Chicago Road. The driver reportedly was asleep behind the wheel. Police could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. Brown was arrested and taken to the police station, where he took a breath test.
