Police: Heights 19-Year-Old Shot Dead by Security Guards in Richton Park

Sean D'Angelo Smith of Chicago Heights was fatally shot after he fired a gun at two security guards, according to Richton Park Police.

A Chicago Heights man was shot and killed after firing a handgun at security officers Saturday in Richton Park, according to police.

Security officers at the Lioncrest Townhomes subdivision told police they saw a passenger inside a vehicle fire a gun into the air multiple times, Richton Park police told Sun-Times Media. The guards then approached the car to confront the passenger.

Sean D’Angelo Smith, 19, of the 200 block of West Elmwood Drive, got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at the guards, according to police.

Smith ignored the security officers' order to drop the gun and fired at the guards, according to police. The guards said they returned fire, hitting Smith multiple times. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene at 4 a.m.

An autopsy determined Smith died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Another male also was wounded in the shooting and was taken to , where he was treated and released. Police have not said whether the man was one of the security guards.

The guards work for a private company that has a contract with Lioncrest Townhomes and not the Richton Park Police Department, police said.
