Police: Hungry Bandits Pilfer Pizza, Chicken and Chips

Frozen Pizza Theft

An employee of Mobil in the 400 block of West 14th Street told police four men entered the gas station and acted "very suspicious." The employee said he saw three of the men putting frozen pizzas, frozen chicken sandwiches and several bags of chips in their pockets while the fourth attempted to distract staff, according to the report. The employee then locked the doors to detain the men, but one of the men kicked the doors open and they all fled, according to the report. Two of the men got into an unknown white vehicle and the other two got into an unknown tan vehicle, the employee told police. The employee estimated the men took more than $1,000 worth of food, according to the report.

Obstructing Police

Clifton Franklin, 18, of the 2000 block of Meadow Lane in Schererville, IN, was arrested and charged with obstructing a peace officer after police went to the 500 block of Andover Street responding to a call about a vehicle involved with shots fired in the area, according to the report. When the police made contact with Franklin, he approached them in an aggressive manner and yelled obscenities, according to the report. Police told Franklin to get back several times but he refused and was taken into custody, according to the report. 

Beaten, Killed and Beaten Again?

A 49-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he received a voicemail from his ex-girlfriend stating, "Don't worry, I'm gonna get your (expletive) beat, I'm gonna kill you, I'm gonna get you beat again."

Morning Burglary

A 73-year-old Chicago Heights man told police someone entered his 8th Street home sometime between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m and took nearly $4,000 in cash along with his loaded Smith and Wesson revolver. The man said he returned to notice his kitchen window, which was secure when he left, was open with the glass cracked, according to the report. The man described the handgun to be black with a silver cylinder, according to the report. A neighbor told police a thin teenage male wearing a "baseball outfit" rang her doorbell around 9 a.m. When the woman answered the door, the teen told her he had the wrong house and left on a bicycle, according to the report. 

Mail Order Fraud

A 57-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police her bank alerted her about several fraudulent charges on her account. The bank reimbursed the woman and closed the debit card, according to police. On another date, the woman told police about another attempted charge to her account, this time from the United States Postal Service to ship a package to Canada from the woman's address. The package was returned to the woman's home with the message "contents were not declared," police said. Inside the package was a check nearly $1,900, made out to John Smith. The woman said she did not send the package, nor did she know anyone named John Smith, according to the report.

Stolen Truck

A 30-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police her ex-boyfriend came to her Boston Street home on July 17, saying he wanted her pickup truck. After the woman refused, the boyfriend took the woman's keys and fled in the truck, according to the report. The woman did not report the theft until Aug. 18, according to the report.
