Police Identify Suspects in Chicago Heights Teen Baseball Bat Attack

Police have identified suspects in the beating of an 18-year-old Chicago Heights man.

Chicago Heights Police have identified two men and two minors who were responsible for critically injuring an 18-year-old Chicago Heights man  in a baseball bat attack Monday night.

According to Sergeant Thomas Rogers, Chief of Investigations for the Chicago Heights Police Department, the following people have been charged:

  • Herberto Garcia, 19, of 14 Forest Ave, Chicago Heights, was charged with one count of attempted murder and aggravated battery.
  • Juan Velasquez, 19, of 242 E. 24th Street, Chicago Heights, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
  • A 14-year-old male juvenile of Chicago Heights, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery.
  • Police charged a second male juvenile of Chicago Heights with attempted murder and aggravated battery.

As of Friday, the 18-year-old, former student of Bloom High School whom Patch.com is not identifying at his family's request, remained hospitalized at Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, hospital sources said.
