Police: Joliet Man Tells Cops During DUI Stop That He 'Walked' Out of Jail

After giving cops the name of a prison inmate, Jermaine Allison, 38, of the 900 block of Gael Drive in Joliet, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

While interviewing a Joliet man smelling of alcohol, a question loomed in the mind of one police officer. Back at the station he finally asked: Did you escape from jail?

No, the man replied, I “walked away.”

When stopped for speeding, Jermaine Allison, 38, of the 900 block of Gael Drive in Joliet, told police his name was Alphonso Allison, who happens to be incarcerated in the Illinois Department of Corrections, according to police. He possessed no driver's license at the time, police said, because as a proper background search would later reveal, it had been revoked.

Allison gave officers his real information in lockup and submitted to a breath test, which registered three times the legal limit, police said.

His car—actually his mother’s, which he said he took without permission—had been stopped at 14th Street and Chicago Road on Dec. 8 around 10:30 p.m. and towed. Allison told police he had just left St. James Hospital, though he was traveling in its direction.

He was later charged with driving under the influence, speeding, no proof of insurance and driving while license revoked.
