Police: Restaurant Delivery Man Cons Olympia Fields Woman Out of Hundreds of Dollars

Man who posed as subcontractor evaded authorities for nearly three months before being apprehended.

A delivery man for a Chicago restaurant made a visit to an Olympia Fields home for a quick payday, according to authorities.

Colin Hicks, 44, of Glen Ellyn, was arrested and charged with felony theft by deception after he posed as a subcontractor for his uncle's Chicago-based company, Home Safe Rolling Shutter, police said.

An Olympia Fields woman told police Hicks came to her home in March after she called the company in reference to having shutters installed on her doors. Hicks took measurements and requested a 50 percent down payment on the work, which amounted to $877.50.

The woman gave Hicks a check for the amount but said he never returned to do the work, eventually telling her he "had issues" with the company's owner and would return her money. He never paid her back, according to the report.

The company's owner, Gill St. Clair, said Hicks delivers food for his mother's restaurant in Chicago, and said he hadn't subcontracted any work to his nephew, adding that he had "no idea" how the woman ended up getting a visit from Hicks.

Hicks was apprehended by Calumet City police and transported to the Olympia Fields Police Department June 2. He told police he, in fact, did not work for his uncle's company and that an employee told him about the Olympia Fields job.

Hicks told police he spent most of the woman's money on "bills and everyday stuff."
