Police Stunning, Shooting of 95-Year-Old Man Ruled Homicide
Police say they were trying to disarm the man of a 12-inch-butcher knife, according to Sun-Times Media reports.
The police shooting of a A 95-year-old Park Forest man police Tasered has been ruled a homicide, reports the Sun-Times Media.
Police were called to Victory Centre assisted living center last Friday around 8:45 p.m. to assist with 95-year-old resident John Wrana. Wrana was showing “unusually aggressive behavior” when a private ambulance service tried to involuntarily escort him for medical treatment, according to the report.
Officers arrived to find Wrana threatening staff with a metal cane and 2-foot metal shoehorn. When he was asked to drop the objects, he reached for a 12-inch butcher knife.

Officers attempted to incapacitate Wrana by shooting him with a stun gun. When that attempt allegedly failed to work, they fired a beanbag from a shotgun at him. The round connected, and he dropped the knife. Police say Wrana was conscious when they took him to the hospital, but by 2:30 a.m. the next morning, he had died.
The shooting is now under review by the Illinois State Police Integrity Unit.
