South Chicago Heights Man Accused of Stabbing His Child's Grandmother

He now faces attempted first-degree murder charges.

James E. Wenig, 46, of the 2800 block of Commercial Avenue in South Chicago Heights, was arrested after breaking into the Lansing home of his child's mother and grandmother and stabbing the grandmother several times with a knife, Lansing police said.

The incident occurred Saturday, just before 3 a.m., after which Wenig fled on his motorcycle, only to be stopped and apprehended by police.

Wenig is being charged with attempted first-degree murder. The grandmother is in stable condition, according to police.
