Stolen Van Had Unlocked Doors, Broken Key in Ignition: Blotter

Chicago Heights police reports, March 11.

MONDAY, MARCH 11

Stolen Van

A 1994 Chevy Astro Van parked in a driveway in the 200 block of West 14th Place as reported stolen. The owner said she last saw the van at about 6:45 p.m. on March 11. The key had broken off in the ignition and the doors were left unlocked, the owner told police.

Car Vandalism

Several cars were either damaged or broken into on March 10 and March 11. Most of the incidents happened within blocks of King Park. Several cars were found with shattered windows. No arrests were reported:

  • Someone smashed the front passenger-side window of a vehicle parked near 1100 Fifth Ave. Nothing was taken from the vehicle. The damage was done sometime between 11:30 p.m. March 10 and 8 a.m. March 11.
  • Someone smashed a driver-side rear window at about 2 a.m. March 11 on a Cadillac parked near 1100 Fifth Ave. The car alarm went off but the burglar was unable to get into the vehicle.
  • The driver-side vent window on a vehicle was smashed at about 1:30 a.m. March 10. near 1517 Union Ave. The car alarm went off but the owner did not see anyone around.
  • The driver-side door lock of a car parked in a driveway in the 1000 block of Scott Avenue was tampered with sometime on March 10 or March 11.
  • A rear, driver-side window was smashed on a vehicle sometime between 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on March 11 near 1512 Hanover Street.
