Former Rep. Halvorson Sets Sights on JJJ's Seat

After losing to former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., former Illinois Rep. Debbie Halvorson has announced her intention to run for the set he has vacated, in a special election planned for the spring.

Former Illinois State Rep. Debbie Halvorson announced her candidacy to replace former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.’s newly vacant seat, according to the Chicago Tribune. This news comes only months after Halvorson lost to incumbent Jackson for the position in the March 2012 Democratic primary.

Halvorson is known for being the first female Illinois state senate majority leader. She also formerly served as an 11th District Representative in state congress.

Former Rep. Jackson recently resigned from his position as 2nd District Representative Nov. 21, after winning re-election just a couple weeks prior. Plans for the special election have yet to be determined, but officials are estimating the financial burden of Jackson’s resignation to range in the millions.

Mel R AND perhaps JJJ's brother are said to be filing to run. Come on. This is like Stroger all over again. Wake up and support Debbie H! She is qualified... had the nerve to run against JJJ in the primary... and is a straight talker.

I am Black, did NOT vote for JJJ in the primary or in November. Voted for Halvorson in the primary, and the republican fellow in November. Anybody but JJJ, a smug, self-serving non-representative for the 2nd. His office in Homewood was non-responsive to constituents. Be careful with all that young blood talk, it is ageist. A person's qualifications include education, experience, vision, and ability to communicate, among other things. Race is not a factor, neither is age, gender, or religion. Mel. R is a molester, most of the clowns who are no longer afraid to throw their hat in the ring since JJJ resigned are not worthy of consideration. Halvorson demonstrated courage by opposing JJJ in the primary, none of these other latecomers were brave enough. I'm not moving and I know that the 2nd can finally have effective representation if people would just become informed and lose their fear. Whites need to stop voting their race also, they love to accuse Blacks of doing this but they do it all the time. Have a great day.

"I Think Therefore I Vote"-love this handle! Wish more of the electorate would do this.

Check out www.voteAnthonyWWilliams.com Compare, then decide. I support Anthony W. Williams who does work tirelessly unlike those currently in office, the newly elected and others running. When have they personally advocated for us on any issue? Did they advocate for Rocky when his school insurance capped and the state was about to yank benefits from him: the state stealing from retirees' pensions, closing mental health clinics, hospitals? Yet silence among those who say they will see that we receive justice. I guess not one issue was important enough to anyone except Anthony W. Williams resulting in Clark keeping insurance status, 40k coming forward and retirees receiving refunds. Williams was blocking projects in Englewood, etc. before Gardner. Think how much more he would do once elected! Don't vote for people just because "they have been there, they are there or they say what they will do when they get there. Go by what they have and are doing. Give votes to those who have EARNED them.

I was torn between Debbie and this candidate Anthony Williams they will both represent the people and Debbie more of them the Corp are people too my friend as she was part of the Emil Jones leadership team and that I say is a reason not to vote for her or any corporate DEMOPUB which now simply means she will be a part of the BI-Partisanship -CORPORATIONS are bigger people, most of the candidates are the same and many are just praying for the day when they can join in on the gravy train like Mel once more, in my opinion Williams will be the progressive and a actual represenative that we have not had for more than 20 years the longest time without any representation in congressional history
