Heights Business Could Create 40 New Jobs: Meeting Notes

A quick round up of notable moments at the Oct. 3 Chicago Heights City Council meeting.

This week we'll be reporting on several moments from last night's council meeting, including a gold medal-winning police officer, cops that can pull an airplane and firefighters in pink.

But while we set up interviews and gather information, I thought it might be helpful to give a rundown of some important things mentioned, while they're fresh in everyone's mind.

Heights Company Could Create 40 Jobs

We'll be doing a separate story on this, but I thought it was worth noting ASAP.

Owners of the Pita Pan factory, located at 401 East Joe Orr Road, applied for and received Cook County Class 8 economic incentives to expand their factory by 90,000 square feet.

The expansion could create around 40 jobs right here in the Heights. We'll be watching this one closely.

City Renews Tow Service Agreement With Slight Price Increase

Chicago Heights Police Chief Michael Camilli had nothing but good things to say about United Road Towing when he recommended the council approve renewing their contract with the city.

The aldermen agreed, supporting the approval unanimously, despite a higher asking price than the previous contract.

"The price did go up, but it looks like it's still lower than the average in the area," said Mayor David Gonzalez.

Street, Highway and Sidewalk Work

The council also approved a 2011 to 2012 maintenance program for streets and highways, as well as a sidewalk replacement program for the same duration.

Gonzalez noted an addition to the plan that includes tree-trimming on the city's behalf as well.
