Heights Planning $4M in Capital Improvement

The city has been partnering with engineering companies in preparation for next year's improvements.

Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez says he plans to invest more than $4 million dollars in capital improvement projects next year.

If the city follows through, it will far surpass the usual annual investment of less than $1 million—a tradition that goes back to the previous administration, according to Gonzalez.

In anticipation for the heavy workload, the city has been partnering up with several engineering companies. Globetrotters Engineering Corporation was most recently approved as a contractor during Monday’s Nov. 4 city council meeting. Robinson Engineering LTD. and Harry O. Hefter Associates, Inc. are already on board.

The idea behind the multiple companies, according to Gonzalez, is to afford the city the flexibility to assign individual, potentially overlapping projects in a quick and efficient way.

Included in the capital improvement plans is sewer and water infrastructure repairs and maintenance, the installation of bike paths and tree trimming.
