Chicago Heights to Receive State Funds for Road Repairs
Chicago Heights will each receive its own allotment to be spent on patching roads following a particularly rough winter.
The state will provide more than $1.2 million to area municipalities, to cover repairs needed on local streets.
The funds will come from the state’s Illinois Jobs Now! program. The winter's extreme weather throughout this winter makes road repair crucial, Gov. Pat Quinn said in a statement.
“The extreme and historic winter has left many roads in rough shape,” he said. “This investment will help local communities repair the damage done by Mother Nature and improve the quality of life for residents and businesses.”

In total, roughly $100 million will be allocated to governments across the state, with about $60 million slotted for the Chicago metropolitan area. Flossmoor will receive $40,391, while Homewood will be given $84,869. Chicago Heights will also be given $142,336.
Funds from this program are supplementary to motor fuel tax funds the state provides each month to local governments for road repair projects. Those funds are expected to amount to $200 million for Cook County communities this year.
